Educating at Home Environment - The Benefits to Children

by Tiffany Chicco

In the last 10 years or so we've seen a steep increase in the number of families who are choosing the schooling at home model of education for their families. The last roughly ten years has seen an increase in violent crimes occur in schools in the US. So it is understandable for parents to want to do all they can to protect their children. One factor that is quite important is the desire to provide the best quality of education possible. In Many US states, educational standards have decreased and there is evidence that supports that notion. The choice in text books and the range of options available is one aspect many parents enjoy. No solution is going to give a perfect result although there are a lot of benefits available to both parents and children when schooling at home.

Many parents will consider a teacher to student metric as they look at new schools for their children to attend if the ratio is too high they will look elsewhere. Individual attention is among the negative implications of a higher than average teacher to student ratio. Teachers simply don't have the time to give every child the quality attention they might need due in part to the overcrowded schools they work in. Many students would fare far better in academics if they could get more one on one attention. When schooling at home, this is a situation that is resolved. Individual attention amounts can be a large or as small as the parent and child choose. That can be the difference between a child's success and failure in learning any subject.

Many adults are painfully reminded of the intense levels of peer pressure in schools. This social pressure can make high school incredibly hard. There is a high amount of potentially negative influences outside the home. Obviously, all of that can be completely negated when the child is educated at home. When a child is educated at home there are no destructive forms of criticism on a child's self-esteem. That alone can allow any child room to grow and develop without unhealthy consequences of the influence of other children.

No matter what type of school they are in, children still enjoy going on field trips. For most kids however, these field trips are few and far between. Can you imagine what it would be like to take more field trips to help teach your children, of course the type of outing would depend on where you live. If you live within a reasonable distance from a large city you will have access to museums. On the flip side, field trips can be taken just about anywhere and made into excellent learning outings in subjects like science, biology and nature just to name a few.

It seems there is a clear pattern with the benefits attainable with schooling at home. There could be a better possibility for interactive abilities to be acutely improved. There is an excellent possibility of children to become filled with confidence in all things and having the skill to communicate well is commanding.
