Please read the criteria for the Paul Baster Technical Scholarship.

The objective of  this scholarship is to assist financially those students 25
 years and younger who have permanent residence or have studied within the Township of Uxbridge and who are proceeding to full time studies at a post-secondary institution in the technical aspects of musical performing arts. Sound technology must be part of the program. A candidate can enter the competition more than once but cannot win more than one scholarship. 

Selection will be made by a Technical Adjudicating Panel and by other criteria outlined below by early July and the contestants will be advised by July 15 each year.  Awards will be presented at a ceremony prior to the end of August.
 

Notification of the competition will be published in the local press and at Uxbridge Secondary School by December 1. The Scholarship Fund will receive applications at any time up to January 31of following year. 

The Technical Adjudicating Panel will be made up of a panel of at least three Uxbridge and region residents involved with presenting music to the public and who have made use of technical help.  The panel will be established by the Scholarship Fund Committee each year by January 31. Panel members, if not already familiar with the candidates’ abilities, will attempt to attend one or more events at which the candidates’ involvement in the technical aspects of the performances can be witnessed.
 

The student will provide the Scholarship Fund Committee, along with the application, a list of events (concerts, musicals, etc.) at which the student has had responsibilities in technical production as well as details of his or her involvement in the events and should provide a list of upcoming events, if known.
 

Recipients must demonstrate the following:
 
Acceptance by a recognized institute of higher education verifying specifically the nature of the program being entered. (This may be provided after the adjudication but must be in the hands of the Scholarship Fund Committee before July 1.) 

High academic standing at the High School level.
 

 
Applicants will provide, along with their application, a personal statement of no more than 200 words about their future study plans and why they should be considered for an award.
 

Candidates will be interviewed by one or more members of the Technical Adjudicating Panel.
  

Cheques for successful candidates can be made payable to the candidate or to the institute of the recipient’s
choice. 

Relative weighing of the above criteria will be approximately as follows:

·         Experience and excellence in sound technology:      75%

·         Academic achievement:                                                 10%

·         Personal letter and interview:                                          5%

·         Community involvement                                                10%
